Privacy policy

MCP News collects as little as possible: no accounts, no forms, no advertising, no sale of personal information. The only analytics is Google Analytics, which requires your prior consent in the EU/EEA, UK, Switzerland, and Quebec, and runs on a notice-and-opt-out basis elsewhere.

Who operates this site

MCP News (mcp-news.com) is published by Reflexive Media LLC. For any privacy question or request, contact privacy@mcp-news.com.

What we collect, and why

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (a service of Google LLC) to understand readership: pages viewed, approximate location at city level, device and browser type, and how visitors arrive. We configure analytics without advertising features; ad storage, ad user data, and ad personalization are disabled.

How analytics starts depends on where you are, matching the law that applies there:

  • Prior-consent regions (the EU/EEA, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Quebec): analytics does not run, and no analytics cookie is set, unless you choose "Accept analytics" in the cookie banner. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) and the ePrivacy rules on terminal storage; PECR in the UK; Law 25 in Quebec), which you can withdraw at any time (see Cookies below).
  • Notice-and-opt-out regions (everywhere else, including the United States): analytics runs by default with this policy as notice, and you can opt out at any time via the Cookie preferences link in the footer. We honor the opt-out immediately and on all future visits.

Your region is determined once from the request's network location by our host and is not stored by us beyond the resulting "consent" or "notice" setting kept in your browser.

Cloudflare Web Analytics (cookie-free, aggregate only)

We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-first measurement service, to see aggregate page views, referrers, country-level location, device class, and page performance (Core Web Vitals). It uses no cookies and no browser storage of any kind, does not fingerprint visitors, and produces only aggregate statistics; individual visitors are not identified or tracked over time. Because it stores nothing on your device, it does not require cookie consent, and its legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding readership (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). As configured, this measurement is additionally disabled entirely for visitors in the European Union.

Infrastructure logs

The site is served by Cloudflare, Inc. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical request data (IP address, user agent, requested URL) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We use this only in aggregate operational form. The legal basis is legitimate interest in operating and securing the service (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

What we do not collect

There are no user accounts, no comment forms, no newsletters, and no payment processing on this site. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising, and we do not use advertising cookies.

Cookies and local storage

Analytics cookies are set only when analytics is active (after acceptance in prior-consent regions; by default elsewhere until you opt out):

NameSet byPurposeDuration
_gaGoogle AnalyticsDistinguishes visitorsUp to 2 years
_ga_*Google AnalyticsMaintains session stateUp to 2 years

Separately, your choice and region setting are remembered in your browser's local storage (keys mcpnews-consent and mcpnews-consent-mode) so we do not ask or re-check on every visit. These entries store only the words "granted"/"denied" and "consent"/"notice".

To change or withdraw your choice, or to opt out where analytics is on by default, use the Cookie preferences link (also in the footer of every page). Opting out stops analytics immediately on the current page and on all future visits; you can additionally clear existing cookies in your browser settings.

Retention

Google Analytics event-level data is retained for up to 14 months, after which it is deleted automatically. Aggregate reporting derived from it does not identify you. Cloudflare's operational logs are retained per Cloudflare's standard practices.

International transfers

Google LLC and Cloudflare, Inc. are US companies; data they process may be transferred to the United States under their respective compliance frameworks (including the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses).

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including the EU/EEA and UK under GDPR, and California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export personal data, to object to or restrict processing, to withdraw consent, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. We do not sell personal information, and we do not discriminate for exercising privacy rights. To exercise any right, email privacy@mcp-news.com.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes

Changes to this policy are posted on this page with an updated effective date. Material changes that affect the analytics consent are accompanied by re-prompting the cookie banner.
