Microsoft Advertising announces its MCP server, read-only in open flight, five weeks after the setup docs went live
Microsoft Advertising's August product-news post, dated 2026-08-31, announced the Microsoft Advertising MCP server: read-only access to live account data through an "open flight", used from Microsoft 365 Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude and other MCP clients. The announcement trails its own documentation: the Learn setup guide, which names the endpoint and adds Copilot Studio and GitHub Copilot in VS Code as documented clients, has carried a 2026-07-22 date since July.
Microsoft Advertising announced its Model Context Protocol server on 2026-08-31, as a section of the platform's August product-news post rather than a standalone announcement. The server connects live Microsoft Advertising account data to AI assistants, and the post names Microsoft 365 Copilot, ChatGPT and Claude among them: reports, campaign audits, keyword research and account insights run as conversations instead of exports. Access is read-only, offered through what Microsoft calls an open flight.
The announcement trails its own documentation by five weeks. The setup
guide on Microsoft Learn has carried a 2026-07-22 date since July, and
it is the more precise surface: it documents the endpoint at
partner.api.bingads.microsoft.com/ext/mcp/vnext?toolSetNames=OpenBeta,
OAuth authentication under the msads.manage scope, and setup paths
for two clients the announcement does not mention, Copilot Studio and
GitHub Copilot in VS Code.
The post also names an early production user: Stagwell Media Platform, which combines the MCP server with Microsoft 365 Copilot and Azure AI Foundry for campaign work, with human review before changes go live. That framing matches the access model, since the open flight exposes no write path at all.
Microsoft Advertising joins TikTok for Business, which announced its own first-party server in May, among ad platforms giving MCP clients direct access to campaign data.
