MCP server connections for GitHub Copilot code review reach general availability, limited to read-only

GitHub moved MCP server connections and agent skills for Copilot code review from public preview to general availability across its paid Copilot tiers. Tool calls made during a review are constrained to read-only, and the GitHub and Playwright MCP servers are enabled by default.

GitHub moved MCP server connections and agent skills for Copilot code review from public preview to general availability on July 29, covering Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise users. MCP connections pull context from third-party platforms such as issue trackers and documentation systems directly into a review, and agent skills let the reviewer invoke team-specific tools and standards from SKILL.md files under .github/skills.

Two constraints define the GA shape. All MCP tool calls performed by Copilot code review are limited to read-only, and the GitHub MCP Server and Playwright MCP are turned on by default. MCP configurations already set up for the Copilot cloud agent apply to code review automatically; new configurations live under repository settings, Copilot, MCP servers, with authentication tokens under Secrets and variables, Agents.

Review comments now carry attribution indicating when a comment was generated using agent skills or MCP context. The entry names no spec revision and no server version, so this is a product-availability record rather than a spec-adoption record in the tracker's terms.
