revision. The post expands MRTR as Multi Round-Trip Requests, describes
servers returning input_required results with clients retrying, and
names the headers Mcp-Protocol-Version, Mcp-Method, and Mcp-Name,
with the stated rationale that a gateway, rate limiter, or WAF can make
decisions from headers without parsing arbitrary JSON.
It states verbatim that Roots, Sampling, Logging, Dynamic Client Registration, and the legacy HTTP+SSE transport are deprecated in this release, with a defined migration window. On Dynamic Client Registration it says the feature is deprecated for new implementations and is slated for removal after summer 2027, and gives the general rule that a deprecated feature must remain available for at least 12 months before it can be removed. The official deprecated registry wording ("First revision released on or after 2027-07-28") is more precise; Cloudflare's phrasing is reported here as Cloudflare's characterization.
The post states that Cloudflare's Agents SDK has supported the new
specification since day one, and describes createMcpHandler as
graduating into the official TypeScript SDK from the Agents SDK. It also
quotes Sentry (David Cramer) and Linear (Tom Moor) as running the
revision in production ahead of finalization; those quotes are
Cloudflare's presentation of those companies.
